Honey makes it better

Honey is one of the oldest and most delicious substances known to mankind and has long been valued for nutrition and healing.
Bee-keepers will be pleased to be able to recommend honey to their friends and family as a cure for over indulgence in alcohol.
(Naturally, we bee-keepers are far too sensible to get “hang-overs” ourselves! )
In a scientific investigation of the factors which influence the rate of metabolism of alcohol in man, fructose was the only substance which was found to significantly increase the rate of alcohol elimination from the body. Because of its high fructose content, honey is the ideal way of administering this sugar.

10 normal men were given, on each of three separate occasions, on different days, the following:
Day 1 - 120ml (4ozs) of whisky alone.
Day 2 - 120ml whisky & 30gm of glucose.
Day 3 - 120ml whisky & 75gm of honey.

On each occasion the experiment was performed in the morning after an overnight fast. The blood levels of alcohol over a 5 hour period were then measured and the honey was shown to significantly increase the rate of elimination of alcohol from the blood stream.
Also, in combination with orange or lemon juice - vitamin C - honey alleviates most of the morning-after symptoms of alcoholic “hangover”, eg: headache, tiredness and indisposition. (Pawan, 1974, 1976)
